Mine (Ironstone & Limestone), abandoned pre-1859.
"This district was for long an important centre for the production of limestone, mainly for agricultural and fluxing purposes; and there are many abandoned quarries, mines and kilns... At Oldhill, Braidwood, Nellfield and Leemuir the Main Limestone was quarried. It had a thickness of 6 ft. at Nellfield; little can now be seen except some of the overlying beds at a few localities. The outcrop, somewhat folded and faulted, extended from Braidwood to 2½ m. beyond Leemuir. There were also shafts to the limestone at Oldhill and Langshaw." [Robertson, 1949]
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: Labelled as Ironstone Pit (Disused) on 1864 OS map, and "Old Pits to IS & Lst" on Geol. Survey map.
