Mine (Oil Shale), late 19th Century.
Inclined adit and shaft that served the Philpstoun Oil Works. Site of adit now occupied by area of woodland.
"The mine seems to have been abandoned in 1899, but the area to the south was subsequently open cast on a small scale, obscuring early workings. An exposed quarry face still survives within a heavily wooded valley. " [Scottish Shale]
Alternative Names: Philipstoun Mine No 4
Notes: Operated by James Ross & Co.
