Mine (Coal & Ironstone), c.1875-90.

Shaft, sunk to Possil Main Coal, now buried below open grassy parkland by SW corner of Essenside Ave. Modest-scale blackband ironstone workings (in Upper Possil) worked from a depth of 139m (see abandonment plan in refs for extent). Operated by William Dixon Ltd, who closed the mine in 1890.

Notes: Geol. Survey map of 1987 states UPI at 139m, & PM at 173.7m. The 1953 Ed. states 'Pit No.2 Drumchapel' with UPI & PM at 80 & 96 fms [146 & 176m], respectively.
