Shaft marked as Arn's Well Pit, 2 ft at 12 fathoms (& 3"?) on Geological Survey map immediately SE of Bankhead Quarry (SW of later? disused quarry marked on modern OS maps).

Notes: The well received its title from the Scottish word "arn," meaning alder trees (pronounced "airn"), which once grew in abundance around the site. [Forgotten Scottish History]
