Mine (ironstone & coal), 19th Century.
"shaft just to the north-east of Over Inzievar worked the Parrot Coal at 2 fathoms and the Blackband Ironstone at 42 fathoms." [Fife Pits]
This now-treated pit shaft provided entry into the 'western workings' of the Inzievar ironfield, and a cross-over passage gave access to higher-level N-S-trending coal workings located to the E and SE of the shaft. The site is now occupied by a patch of woodland overgrowing an associated bing, just NE of the sharp bend along the Oakley to Valleyfield road.
See 'Over Inzievar [1]' (Site #7426) for main entry, and abandonment plans for further details of ironfield.
Alternative Names: Oakley No.3 Pit
Notes: Depth given as 42 fathoms on Fife Pits map. This would place the base of the shaft below MSL. Shaft named as 'No.3 Pit' on abandonment plan.
8 fig. coordinates determined using OS georeferencing tool (geol. survey map).
