Mine (Ironstone), 19th Century.
Treated shaft to the NW of Over Inzievar farmhouse that accessed the 'western workings' of the Inzievar ironfield. Site located on E margin of overgrown associated bing. The faces of the mine around the base of the pit were worked in 1870.
See 'Over Inzievar [1]' (Site #7426) for main entry, and abandonment plans in refs for further details of ironfield.
Abandonment plans show that an 'Old Day Level' adit was present to the SW at a site now occupied by woodland (NT 0088 8836), which must be early/mid 19th Century or older.
Alternative Names: Oakley No.4 Pit
Notes: Labelled on geol' survey map as "IZ BB. at 76 fms" [Inzievar Blackband at 139m], and 'Old Shaft' on 1896 map.
8 fig. coordinates determined using BGS / OS georeferencing tool (geol. survey map).
