Mine (ironstone & coal), 19th Century.
Western access shaft to the extensive eastern part of the Inzievar ironstone workings, this section being mined at or before 1859. A short south-trending arm appears to have exploited coal to a point immediately S of the Valleyfield to Oakley road. See 'Over Inzievar [1]' (Site #7426) for main entry, and abandonment plans for further details of ironfield.
The shaft has been treated and is now buried below agricultural ground.
Alternative Names: Oakley No.2 Pit
Notes: Discrepancy between OS map shown in Streetview ("shaft (disused") and 19th Century version ("ironstone pit"). BGS coords used (8 fig).
Depth given as 22 fathoms [40m] on geol. survey / Fife Pits map.
Possibly Inzievar No.2 Pit, but unclear.
