Mine (shale), c.1864-65.
"A short-lived mine following the seam of Grey Shale from its outcrop. The workings appear to link underground to those of Addiewell No. 3 Mine. Little trace remained of the surface features when mapped by the Ordnance Survey in c.1893." [Scottish Shale]
Site now "grassed open space following land renewal. No surviving trace of mine head structures". The distance between the mined area's N to S extremities (at [NT 00508 63176] on N side of B792 road & [NT 00440 62543] beside Edinburgh-Glasgow railway, respectively) is c.630 m. Workings underlie an area of vacant land with adit site located approx midway along the system's E margin.
