Mine (ironstone, then coal), 19th Century.
Shaft with ironstone workings connected to those of Foulford No.1 pit, but probably had additional coal levels. Site now landscaped and occupied by woodland.
"... the Lochgelly Company's Foulford No. 2 Pit, known locally as the 'Fair Helen', successfully wrought the Lochgelly Splint and Parrot seams, closing we believe around the end of the century. Coal from the 'Fair Helen' was probably transported along the tramway (shown on 1856 OS map) linking the Newton area pits to depots on Cowdenbeath High Street, for sale or for transport to Burntisland docks." [Fife Pits]
Alternative Names: Fair Helen Pit
