Mine (Coal), early-20th cent.
Site of a ventilation portal that formed part of Little Raith Colliery. Labelled as an adit but named as 'air shaft' on MRA map, possibly indicating a steeply inclined adit mouth. This led into an extensive area of workings within the Duddie Davie Coal seam (worked from the Gordon Pit, Dora Pit & Loch-head No.2 Mine) that appears to have been mined using both the longwall & room-and-pillar methods. This portal was treated/sealed in 1960 & is now buried below a field.
Several air shafts that also ventilated the colliery workings are present in the surrounding area. These also appear to be buried.
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: Gordon Pit [NT 17548 91486], Dora Pit [NT 17230 90916], Loch-head No.2 Mine (site #11580) [NT 18227 91386].
