An impressive entrance within conglomeratic beds leads to a roomy, shingle-floored cave passage that retains similar dimensions to its far end where a freshwater spring is present, with its immediate sink. Flowstones and stalagmites can also be found along the southern wall of the cave. The cave was formerly used by the local Freemasons to hold initiation ceremonies (hence the name), as well as building a door across the entrance to replace that from the days of smuggling when it was used as a boat house. Although the cave is raised and dry, access around a small promontory can be can be cut off by tides.
