A mid intertidal, near vertical rift, sea cave at the base of the cliffs below Lud Castle facing 342 (NNW) across Castlesea Bay. It has a triangular entrance, which is 5.3 m wide at the bottom. The wave-cut platform continues about 10 m into the cave, after which there is a somewhat course sand beach. The walls are quite deeply and tortuously sculpted. It decreases gradually to a point at the end going straight until 35 m and then about 7 deg right.
The end of the cave is calculated to be about 7 m short of penetrating to the S side of the narrowest part of the promontory.
The joint plane on which this cave has been formed appears to be roughly parallel to that of Puffin Cave, but there is no sign of a link between them.
Alternate Names: None recorded.
Notes: Access: By sea at high tide and low swell.
By land from the beach of Castlesea Bay, in the bottom half of the tide. There is a fairly steep way down (gloves advised v nettles etc) from post AS44 (NO 67853 43645) on the cliff path from Auchmithie and a narrow way through the thorn trees at about NO 67930 43658.
