Mine (Ironstone), 19th Century.

Shaft into clayband ironstone workings, part of an extensive complex connected with other pits. Mine plan surveys show that works pre-date 1867.

Alternative Names: Carsehead Pit

Notes: Located immediately W of a large scale but now-infilled quarry, shown on 1914 25" OS map. Quarry post-dates 1858 (map). Pit supplied the neighbouring Carsehead Iron Works to the S (now demolished).

Given coordinates based on bore location shown on geological 6" map.

Shown as 'Carsehead Pit (Ironstone)' with building on 1858 OS 6" map, and 'Carsehead Pit (No.2, Ironstone)' on 1914 25" edition.
