Ironstone & Coal Pit(s), 1854-1900.

Shaft(s) now buried below fenced-off derelict area on Hogg St (possibly now reoccupied as industrial yard). This locality was redeveloped as Pit No.3 (for coal) by Bellsdyke Colliery, with a new No.3 shaft (20 fms [37m] to Humph Coal) sunk a short distance to the N at [NS 76380 65027].

Alternative Names: None recorded.

Notes: Shown as 'Old Pit (Ironstone)' on 1864 6" OS map, and 'Old Shaft' within grounds of Bellfield Colliery on c.1915 edition, although some discrepancy between locations of this shaft.

Mine owners: Lockhart Dobble (1854-1855), Dundas Simpson (1860-1870), Bellsdyke Coal Co. (1873-1900).
