Mine (Ironstone), late 19th Century.

Extensive workings mined using the longwall method, measuring c.840 from NW to SE extremities (approx. [NS 5371 6867] to Skaterig [NS 5450 6840]). Shaft location at given coordinates, located near NW end of workings which were contiguous with the SW workings from No.8 Pit (to NE). On AP, survey dates of 1891-92 are labelled along W margin of workings.

Notes: Labelled as "Ironstone Pits" on 1st ed. OS map, and "Old Shaft" on E margin of bing on 1897 Ed. (surveyed 1896).

Geol. Survey map states "No.6 Pit" and 110 fms [201m] to Johnstone Blackband Ironstone.
