Mine (Ironstone), late 19th Century.

Centrally located pit shaft site now buried within school grounds. Extensive workings in Garibaldi Clayband Ironstone, measuring c.780m from SW to NE extremities (approx. [NS 5362 6882] to [NS 5431 6918]) are contiguous with those of Jordanhill No.6 Pit (possibly separated by fault) & Skaterigg No.14 Pit (to E). AP shows survey dates from 1885-86.

Alternative Names: None recorded.

Notes: Given coordinates from BGS Geoindex, which (together with Geol. Survey map) suggest a location in an alcove between school buildings. MRA map suggests a location under school yard at [NS NS 5398 6894], although 25" OS map may suggest an additional opening here.

Geol. Survey map of 1912 states 25 & 62 fms [46 & 113m] to Lower Possil & Garscadden blackband ironstone seams, respectively. 1987 shows variation on these depths (Garibaldi CB.I at 133.5m).
