Mine (Lead).
Approx. location of a now-buried vertical shaft sunk to the Gripps Level, also connected to the shallower Poutshiel Level. This became the site of a now-demolished lead ore washing mill depicted on the 1897 OS map. This appears to have been built on the site of the 'Old Lead Mine' depicted on the OS 6" map of 1863, which wrought lead ore from the intersection of the Raik & Meadhowhead Veins.
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: "The workings in the north end of Raik Vein have been carried to a considerable depth, and a good deal of ore was met with, especially near the junctions with Meadowhead, Labour in Vain and Jeffrey's Veins."
