Sea cave / tunnel.
This site is a two-pronged tidal sea cave with eyeholes in the ceiling, and is the northernmost of three rock arches along the geo called Poll a' Chait Fhiadhaich. Whilst a western branch ends at a dead end, the c.14m-long eastern main passage allows for a through-trip into an uncovered continuation of the geo. This cave floods to the ceiling at high tide, although dry access can be achieved by scrambling down the NE side of the geo at low tide.
The pothole sections along the geo are too steep sided to be climbed down, although a ladder over the S entrance (c.5m drop at NC 42639 67340) would allow alternative access into the inner part of the geo.
Alternative Names: Leirinmore Sea Cave No.2, Wildcat Cave No.1
Notes: Given location is for the N entrance. Given length approx of both E & W sides.
Poll a' Chait Fhiadhaich means 'Dell of the Wildcat' (OS namebook)
Hydrographic Feeds: Poll a' Chait Fhiadhaich
