A lengthy and energetic sea tunnel with a lengthy pothole located midway along, essentially creating two separate permanently flooded tunnels (North Gyle & South Gyle). The sea entrance to the North Gyle tunnel is typically too turbulent for entry, whilst the South Gyle tunnel is frequently covered in sea foam.
Alternative Names: Uamh Gàth Gheal, Gyle Cave, Leirinmore Sea Cave No.1
Notes: The site is marked as 'Pollag na Lùibe' on the OS 6" 1878 map, meaning "hollow of the loop" according to the OS namebook. However, Lùib(e) can also mean 'eddy' in Gaelic, which would be a better-fitting description.
