An obscure narrow sea cave at the inland end of a tidal inlet, close to the northern extremity of the Leirinmore headland. A small blowhole in the wave cut platform becomes active in rough weather conditions.
Alternative Names: Smooge Slot, The Smooge
Notes: Recorded by I. Greig, S. Brooks & H. Penney in Oct '23.
Name derived from Gaelic term smùid na mara (first word pronounced smooj), meaning sea spray (lit. 'spray of the sea').
Length approx. as not entered at time of recording. Doubtful it would be safe to do so due to active swell into narrow slot.
