Spring.

Significant volume of freshwater upwelling through beach sand. Permanent location indicates spring in underlying dolostone.

Alternative Names: None recorded.

Notes: Rising noted at exact same location in Dec '24 and Apr '25. Latter had lower beach sand deposits and so could see 3 m- wide patch of gravel / pebble deposits (like a smaller scale Fuaran Allt nan Uamh) with upwelling water feeding a gentle stream flowing west. This was after a dry period, so likely to be a decent flow under normal circumstances (but normally obscured by higher beach cover).

Name is a follow-on from the Elephant Trap in Assynt. First documented by I. Greig after inadvertently walking onto the spot and having almost entirety of welly buried in liquified quicksand. Potentially a genuine trap for those with regular shoes.

Hydrographic Resurgences: Geodha Smoo
