Pothole entrance to Smoo Cave.
Acts as the lower sink for the Allt Smoo when Allt Smoo Upper Sink backs up in moderate- to high-water conditions, forming an impressive waterfall into the Lake Chamber of Smoo Cave. The Falais Smoo is dry when the Upper Sink takes the full flow of the burn in low-water conditions.
Crossed by a footbridge, providing a view down the shaft.
Alternative Names: Allt Smoo Lower Sink, Na Falais
Notes: See Smoo Cave [Site 2346] for main database entry.
Falais is pronounced as 'falish'.
Another (dry) pothole entrance, possibly a precursor to this sink, is present ca.10 m metres to the north.
