Shakehole.
Significant doline structure (c.20 m diameter) at lower end of field on E bank of Allt Smoo, c. 50 m SE of Allt Smoo Upper Sink. Completely choked, including artificial boulder fill (suggesting a deeper hole was present pre-agriculture).
Another shakehole in the same field (at NC 4186 6698 below the coach parking area) is of interest with regard to the resurgence in the SE corner of Smoo Cave's Main Chamber. The latter is hydrologically connected to Allt Smoo Upper Sink, as proven by dye tests.
Alternative Names: An Slagan Mòr, The Slag
Notes: Name means 'the large shallow depression' in Gaelic.
