Mine (Ironstone & Coal), c.1860s.

Site of shaft to Garibaldi Clayband Ironstone, site now buried under front of residential grounds. Workings also in Upper Gascadden (blackband) Ironstone, and probably Knightswood Gas & Possil Main coals. Initially a coal pit, as labelled on 1860s OS map; possibly redeveloped / deepened for ironstone after a hiatus; colliery operated by William Napier (1854-1860), and Wilsons & Co. (1865-1866).

Notes: Possil Main at 64m, KW Gas at 92, U. Garscadden blackband at 143, & Garibaldi clayband at 170m. Cowden Hill Colliery (Maryhill) was in operation during 1866, although may have closed the same year. Given coordinates derived from BGS GeoIndex.
