Ironstone Pit (19th Century). Formerly at least 16 m deep, but now erased within grounds of (disused) opencast coal mine/landfill site. Some landscape remediation (patchy grass and scrubby trees) but still bleak.
Alternative Names: High Darngavil Ironstone Pit [2]
Notes: Shown as 'Old Ironstone Pit' on 1864 OS 6" map, but absent on 1914 edition. Near Darngavel farm (name later changed to High Darngavil).
Given coordinates based on pit shaft marking shown on Geological Survey 6" map (9 fathoms [16 m] to ironstone).
