Trial (for Lead), 17th c.

Formerly-exposed portal in S side of stream for trial that was driven SE for ca. 300m, passing under the B797 road between Donalds Knowe & the former Free Church. Mouth evidently now blocked/buried beside pathway.

Wells' 1756 map states: "Christy's Spout - the mouth on an old drift supposed to have been intended for the Hall Vein".

Alternative Names: Christy's Spout Level

Notes: Probably attempted to test the Crawford's (or Crawfurd's) Vein. Length approx, based on Mine Plan SP1805.
