Mine shaft, buried below disturbed ground.

Possibly met the Bay Mine's 'Low Level' adit [see site #10092] at the point where it crosses a perpendicular '280 Fathom' level (cf. connection shaft). The latter runs parallel to levels of the adjacent New Glencrieff Mine complex, driven along the eastern branch of the New Glencrieff Vein. See mine plans SP1805 & SP1751 (in refs) for layout.

Alternative Names: None recorded.

Notes: Reference to Low Adit & 280 Fm levels is based upon rescaling mine plan SP1805 over the OS 25" map of 1899 that depicts the 'Old Shaft' at the given coordinates.

The 280 Fathom level extends SE to a point just west of where the Glencrieff Burn meets the Wanlock Water. The 280 fathom name refers to elevation below a datum defined by a separate adit/shaft, not the depth of the Whyte's Cleugh shaft.
